For a while I went through a time when I would get set work in school and I’d be like “oh I’ll do it at the weekend” or “I’ve been to school today I really can’t be bothered” this was a bad habit I got myself into when I was at school and it really damaged my home learning, it made me feel like homework and revision was a chore like cleaning my room.
This is a habit that you need to get out of as cheesy as this sounds you need to find your love of learning again. Now that I’m at college my relationship with learning has really improved, i now don’t see homework as much as a chore but another opportunity for me to develop my learning to do well in my exam.
Feel ready to study now? Here are my top tips for revision:
First of all organisation, so if you are able to do your schoolwork and revision away from your bed or it will relax you too much, if you are not able to do that like me then get a small bed for your table so you still have a desk like space.
Then you should have a reference page, have one page of everything that you need to know for school/college/university so your timetable, subjects your taking, your teacher names and their emails, your username and passwords for all school accounts, have this in a safe place, if you can put it up somewhere in your room then do so.
Next get your specification for your subjects and print out the important pages like mark scheme and what you need to know for the subject (not contents page and useless things you don’t need to know) and highlights key points on your digital and paper copy and before exams if your not sure what to revise look at that and it’ll help you lots as well as showing you what you really need to know for the exams and what are just extra bits that’s will just help you.
Next notes you should look at all the notes for your subjects as much as you can in a week, as a minimum at least once a week at the weekend. When revising write the title for something you are learning on a blank sheet of paper either put the paper far away from you so you can’t look at it or bury it with books. Then write down what you know and then mark the paper with another colour and add anything you’ve missed and keep repeating.
When you get really close to your final exams make sure you have flashcards.
